This Magazine Cover is from the Magazine "Total Film" one of the biggest Film magazines rivaling Empire on the market. The example I have used here is promoting Sarah Jessica Parker, associated with her most famous show "sex and the city", which is written in very big bold red (sexual connotations) writing next to her picture. This grabs our attention, we will be using a similar method, getting the reader to connect the picture with the text beside it that matches.
We have been having trouble design the magazine cover, we find often that these magazines are aimed at men, and to promote a Rom-com on the front of one is very daring, the cover I have found of Sarah Jessica Parker is a rare exception, we hope to make it work and appeal to both sexes.
There are many decisions we have to make, where we want the picture to go, does it go on top of the magazine title or underneath? Empire magazine chosen between this freely, but our magazine is meant to be new and unheard of, is it sensible to put a photo on top of the title? Other decisions we have to make is the colour scheme, do all the sub titles match the main title, what will the title of our magazine be? Possible ideas are "Realm" and "Supreme" (puns on the name Empire)

From these we are able to see the vast majority of choice we have, the colours match the picture and theme of the film, it is important for us to get this right in order for our magazine to Sell.
